2007 Alaska Road Trip |
This morning on our way south to the border we stopped at a few more wineries and purchased some more wine.
The border crossing went smoothly with only a short line and a quick stop to pay the duty on the wine we had purchased.
The hard part of the day was finding the campground we had decided to stay at in Washington. It was late afternoon by the time we reached the Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park and unfortunately the map did not have the campground located properly. But we eventually found it and setup camp around dusk. One complication with tonight's camp was that the wind was blowing very hard. There is some risk that while popping up the trailer the sides could get caught in the wind and damaged if we lost control of them. To minimize the risk I selected a campsite that allowed me to face the trailer directly into the wind, which in my estimation is the safest way to set it up in high wind. We got it setup with no problems. It was very nice being inside the trailer and protected from all the wind.
It is good to be home after a drive of 9029 miles over the last 39 days! The trip was definitely a lot of fun and I am very happy to have accomplished it since the drive to Alaska and back is something that I have been wanting to do for a long time. I would also like to thank Tony for joining me and his help that made this trip possible.
I am a couple days late in writing this entry because I have been very busy cleaning the car, the trailer and all the stuff.
